Ayurvedic Massage

Ayurvedic massage works on the body, mind and connection with spirit.  It is excellent for relaxation and calming anxiety.  The focus is on a gentle, nurturing experience rather than deep tissue work.  During the treatments take time to just be.  You can access your innate capacity to heal and hear what your body needs.  Regular oil massage is an important part of general health maintenance and can greatly benefit your well-being.

Vishesh

This invigorating massage utilizes marma point therapy, and begins to move ama (toxins) from the tissues while stimulating lymphatic flow.   By Ayurvedic standards, this is a deep tissue massage which breaks up adhesions and improves circulation. The massage is tailored to the individual with rhythm and oils adjusted to suit the person’s constitution.  Vishesh massage removes blockages to increase blood flow, improve digestion, and awaken the energy sources and deeper levels of consciousness. While results vary with the individual, I recommend this massage for those feeling heavy, sluggish or in need of a jump start!  It can reduce tension and clear areas of stagnation, the root cause of pain.  Contraindicated during pregnancy, or an acute case of cold or flu. Attention to the abdomen and upper torso/breast region is included in this treatment.

Garshana – Added on to any massage treatment

Garshana is a revitalizing treatment done with hand-made raw silk gloves.  Traditionally, raw silk gloves are used for the exfoliating practice of Ayurvedic dry skin brushing, called Garshana Massage. In Ayurveda, dry skin brushing is understood to release static electricity from the skin, thereby supporting lymphatic flow and gently exfoliate the skin, aiding in receptivity of the massage oils, and smoothing rough surfaces.  Garshana is also thought to minimize the appearance of cellulite.

Snehana

The royal treatment:  ‘Sneha’ in sanskrit literally means ‘oil’, and is also translated as ‘love.’  This long massage, 90 minutes, is a full-body oil massage that focuses on calming and soothing scattered energy.  I choose herbalized oils tailored specifically to your needs.

This massage can relax an over-active mind, helps in anxiety or insomnia, dry skin, as well as cracking or stiff joints and sore muscles.  As with any massage, it helps to move lymphatic tissue, encouraging your body to better naturally detoxify. Attention to the abdomen and upper torso/breast region is included in this treatment.

Special Ayurvedic Bodywork

Shirodhara

A stream of warm oil is poured on your third eye center after a 30 minute full-body oil massage.  This profound treatment focuses on the manas, the mind and it’s subtle channels.  The sensation aids in the removal of mental ‘sludge.’  It is recommended for a scattered mind, insomnia, nervousness, anxiety, and mental tension or stress.  Shirodhara softly holds you in a meditative state, which will stay with you for hours, or even days.  This is an ancient and luxurious treatment.  It is traditionally performed after an oil massage, but the treatment can stand on its own.  For the most benefit, a series of treatments is recommended.

1 treatment – 60 minutes, $85

Add-on to massage: $75, 30 mins
